5 decorating tips

Posted on June 12 2017

It’s a scientific fact: greenery offers numerous benefits for body and mind. In our fast-paced world, it’s important to take time to relax and unwind, and green spaces can help to reduce anxiety and promote well-being.

Here are our tips to keep the winter blues at bay and maintain that summer vacation feel year-round with your very own indoor paradise.

N°1 – GET SOME GREEN ON YOUR WALLS!

You’ve probably noticed that plant-themed wallpaper is back in style this year. Foliage-inspired wall decals and vertical gardens are another great option.

Liven up your walls with decals and other decorations! These kinds of little details make all the difference in transforming your interior into a real green space. If you've got a green thumb, try adding a vertical garden to give a fresh feel to the room.

N°2 – FILL YOUR SPACE WITH PLANTS

There are a thousand and one ways to display your plants, from hanging baskets and benches to pots and planters.

In addition to their therapeutic properties and positive psychological effects, plants bring a touch of nature and tranquility to indoor spaces.

Here are three indoor plants with therapeutic properties that we love having at home:

  • Cactuses: Rumour has it that the cactus plant can absorb electromagnetic waves. This might not be scientifically proven, but cactuses still bring comfort and positive energy to a space—plus they require very little upkeep and are guaranteed to keep your interior looking sharp!

  • Mini: Ideal for eliminating tension and stress. Mint's soothing scent calms the nerves and relieves nausea as well as joint and muscle pain. Added bonus: you can use mint leaves in your recipes or as a garnish for hot (or cold!) drinks.

  • Lavander: One of the best air purifying plants, ideal for keeping your home fresh. Not only that, lavender’s calming effects make it the perfect little plant for dealing with stress, anxiety, and restlessness! Lavender’s bright, aromatic flowers can be picked and dried to use in a scented sachet. Make your own and then stash them in your drawers and cupboards!

There is a whole world of beautiful plants you can use in your home. Your secret garden awaits!

N°3 – OUTFIT YOUR HOME WITH LUSH GREEN  ACCESSORIES

Nature-inspired home accessories are taking root! With cushions, lampshades, picture frames, decorative objects, tablewear, and much more, there are endless ways to accessorize your interior. Add the perfect finishing touch to your at-home botanical garden with accessories in all shades of green.

Here are some of our favourite home accessory finds: Anthropologie's Verdure Pillow , the lush Palm Leaf Pillow from Buk & Nola, and a fun cactus pillow from Zone.

What’s your pick?

N°4 – LANDSCAPE YOUR FLOORING

Available in almost every colour and shape imaginable, rugs are a truly versatile way to accent your floors. And with so many options, you can easily find the perfect rug for your space! There are a number of botanical-style rugs perfect for bringing a touch of nature into your home.

If you go with a statement rug, choose more understated furnishings for the rest of the room so your space doesn't feel cluttered.

We absolutely love the Monstera leaf rug by Lorena Canals. Do you have any favourite nature‑inspired accessories? Let us know in the comments!

N°5 – FILL YOUR HOME WITH FRESH SCENTS

Incense, candles, home fragrances, and diffusers help create a calming space that's warm and inviting.

Our olfactory memories can store thousands of scents tied to certain emotions, so be sure to choose the scents for your home carefully. Finding this perfect scent is never easy. It comes down to your personality and tastes, and the ambiance you want for your house or apartment.

Home fragrance is a great way to accent the style and tone of your décor.

We’ve compiled a list of our favourite scents for each season:

Spring is a time for new beginnings after winter. Flowers are starting to bloom and the sun finally begins to peek out. As the days start to get longer, the breeze carries the year’s first floral scents. Spring scents should be lively but light. We suggest lily of the valley, jasmine and orange blossom.

Summer means sun, sand, and holidays. The hottest season calls for fresh, fruity, and exotic scents. Now’s a great time to opt for floral scents like blackcurrant or orchid combined with fruitier scents such as raspberry, cherry, or coconut. Summer is also the time to let citrus scents like orange, grapefruit, and lemon have their day in the sun.
Fall is full of colour. The trees are ablaze in reds and oranges as the air slowly begins to chill. Warm floral, woody and spicy scents are synonymous with this season. Put away summer’s exotic fruity smells, and opt instead for lavender, jasmine, and rose combined with woody notes like patchouli or sandalwood.

Winter marks the change that comes with the cold, wind, and snow. Night falls early, and there’s nothing cozier than curling up by the fireplace. This season calls for sweet, warm scents like cinnamon, vanilla and tonka bean!

Of course, there are no hard and fast rules for home fragrance—choose the scents you love, no matter the season!
