PONY - Gabrielle Laïla Tittley

Gabrielle Laïla Tittley ( PONY) was born in Quebec City on February 22, and spent her childhood in both Quebec and Newfoundland. She faced a number of challenges growing up, but they simply nourished her art. It became a form of therapy for her. Drawing and painting helped her chase away her demons and become the amazing young artist she is today.

She had her first exhibition at age 18, in Buckingham, a town in the Outaouais region. That show included 20 large, original paintings. She has since gone on to have more than 25 solo and group exhibitions, some with a variety of local musicians. She is closely involved in the local cultural scene, and has designed some fifteen album covers and plenty of posters for shows and worked with such big names as Bernard Adamus, Canailles and Groenland.

Gabrielle’s style is largely influenced by surrealism, music and her feelings. She admits to being highly sensitive and says that she joyfully welcomes her emotions. Her art is driven and coloured by her emotional state; in fact her artistic process is much like automatic writing. Viewers often find themselves deeply moved by her emotion-drenched pieces. Her drawings are inspired by the body and animals and depict an ambient reality, with their images full of provocative double meanings.
